Sohag

Last week I spent a couple of days in Sohag, Upper Egypt. I went there for a monitoring and evaluation mission of a microcredit program carried out by an Italian NGO, MAIS. I reached Sohag after a 6 hours journey by train, around 12.30 at night. The place seemed so quiet if compared with Cairo and its air so clean...I am suffering for the polluted air in the big town. In Sohag I could not help taking very deep breaths. I enjoyed my staying there, the work carried out with the NGO's staff (both Egyptian and Italian..and Spanish) and the people I met. Most of them are the beneficiaries of the microcredit program, and the smiles on their faces made me feel happy about my choice of leaving my home country and living abroad, working to improve people's lives, even if only in a very minimal part, through microcredit. Enjoy the pics I took!
