Sushi

Konnichiwa! I've always been a big fan of Japan and its culture. Well my whole generation in Italy grew up watching Japanese cartoons (all of you..remember l'Uomo Tigre, Candy Candy, Lupin and his friends Gighen and Ghemon??).

The first time I tasted Japanese food though was in Paris, it was 10 years ago. I was with a Japanese guy and a bunch of Mexicans. I remember I was disgusted by that food.
Then I moved to Cairo and happened to live not too far from a Japanese restaurant called Jo Sushi. I decided to give sushi a second chance and totally fell in love with it.
It's light and tasty and full of nutritional values. Made with rice, fish and vegetables. I discovered that sushi, just as many other things in the world, is an art and a culture. For example, sushi served rolled in seaweed (my favourite) is called maki (roll). Slices raw fish is called sashimi. Usually they are eaten with soya sauce and wasabi, which is the root of a plant and has the same effect of what we call kren (a grated root used in Friuli, usually with ham hat simply makes you cry, because it's really hot!). Besides the cultural aspects, it's really worth tasting sushi, at least once.
Arigatò, Jo Sushi!
